Russia Discontinues Classical MiG-29 Production

Russian Aircraft Building Corporation MiG will discontinue production of "classical" MiG-29 in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod Sokol Aircraft Building Plant and Lukhovitsy. The production of these aircraft will stop after the corporation fully executes the contract to supply 20 MiG-29B/UB/SE to Myanmar which was signed in 2009 and amounted to 400 million euros. After that, RAC "MiG" will concentrate only on modernised fighter platforms MiG-29K/KUB/M1/M2 and MiG-35.

According to the aircraft manufacturer, three MiG-29s have already been delivered to Myanmar, and three more will be shipped to the customer in the near future. The last of the purchased MiG-29 Myanmar should get by the end of 2012.

Series production of "classic" MiG-29 began in 1982. To date, about 1,700 of these fighters were produced, which, in addition to the Russian Air Force, are in service with 27 countries, including Algeria, Azerbaijan, Yemen, Kazakhstan and North Korea. 29B.
